Cognitive Medical Systems names Board of Advisors, secures contracts – Company becomes cash flow positive in under two years –

SAN DIEGO – May 22, 2013 – Cognitive Medical Systems, a specialist in standards-based clinical decision support software, announced today the formation of its Board of Advisors as well as three new contract wins.

Patrick (P.T.) Henry, Fred Hannett and Brian Hurley are the first of what will ultimately be seven industry experts to help offer insights and advice on the company’s strategic direction.

“All three of these accomplished individuals are generous in lending us their time and talents as we look to help standardize this growing technological need for the healthcare industry,” said CEO Mary Lacroix. “Clinical Decision Support is something that virtually every healthcare provider will have to adopt as our healthcare system focuses increasingly on accountability and affordability. Some of the solutions already out there are proving inadequate because they don’t focus on the patient or the provider. Our goal is to change that, and P.T., Fred and Brian will play instrumental roles in helping us make that happen.”

The formulation of the Board of Advisors comes on the heels of Cognitive Medical Systems securing three new healthcare IT contracts; two with healthcare providers and one with the U.S. Department of Defense. The company also became cash flow positive in the first quarter of calendar year 2013 – less than two years after its establishment – and now employs 14 people.

For the past 12 years, P. T. Henry has been the President of the Henry Consulting Group based in Burke, Virginia, that specializes in personnel, healthcare and marketing/advertising support to companies in the industry. He served on the Professional Staff of the US Senate Committee on Armed Services and was the Assistant Secretary of the Army for Manpower and Reserve Affairs during President Bill Clinton’s second term in office.

Fred Hannett is the Managing Partner of The Capitol Alliance and has more than 30 years of experience as a consultant and lobbyist to both private and public sector clients with interests in government healthcare programs. In addition to his strong background in military and veterans health programs, Fred brings recognized expertise in national policy impacting healthcare information technology, having recently served as Vice-Chair of the HIMSS Public Policy Committee. He has also served the Commonwealth of Virginia as Chairman of the State Board of Health.

Brian Hurley is the Principal of Ward Circle Strategies that provides consulting services to the Department of Defense, U.S. Army Surgeon General and other government clients to help shape long-term strategic plans through public presentations, congressional testimony, speeches, press releases, materials and other media outreach. He has more than 25 years of experience in federal health care, including as an Air Force medical services officer until his retirement in 1999 and then as the Special Assistant to the Assistant Secretary of Defense (Health Affairs) from 1999 through 2004.
