Cognitive Medical Systems receives Service-Disabled, Veteran-Owned Small Business status
Company eligible to participate in Department of Veterans Affairs “Veterans First Contracting Program” opportunities
SAN DIEGO – August 21, 2012 – Cognitive Medical Systems, an emerging specialist in standards-based, clinical decision support software solutions for healthcare organizations, received official Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) certification of its service-disabled, veteran-owned small business status (SDVOSB) last week.
The company is now eligible to participate in the agency’s “Veterans First Contracting Program” for at least the next two years.
“We sincerely appreciate the VA’s verification of our status, as it will allow us to compete for the development of much needed effective, workflow-centric infrastructure components that ensure medical devices, software applications and information services sustain safe and effective care with the agency,” said Mary R. The VA announced last month that it exceeded by more than six times the Small Business Administration (SBA) goal of government procurements to SDVOSB-designed companies. The agency places place SDVOSB and Veteran-Owned Small Businesses (VOSB) first and second, respectively, in the hierarchy of its small business preferences as per Public Law 109 461. According to public remarks made by Rom Mascetti, the VA’s Deputy Assistant Secretary for IT Resource Management at last week’s GovWin conference in Washington, D.C., the agency is now one of the largest consolidated IT organizations in the world, with an annual budget in excess of $3 billion and approximately 8,000 staff members. Its communication platforms service more than 10 million veterans and 302,000 employees in more than 1,100 hospitals, clinics, benefit claims processing centers and national cemeteries.
